With the recent approval of a US$90 million dollar climate change adaptation and mitigation project, 17 000 thousand vulnerable families, many from indigenous communities, in 64 districts in Eastern Paraguay are set to see their lives transformed. The project, part of a national public social protection programme, is financed by the Green Climate Fund and developed by FAO and the Government of Paraguay, seeks to improve the families’ quality of life and reduce loss of forest cover by facilitating the transition to sustainable forest management, while mitigating climate change.
