Hi Jon
"Suburbia is the greatest misallocation of resources in the history of the world" says author J. H. Kunstler. (The Long Emergency and more)
In this Ted Talk from 2004, Kunstler explores the tragedy of America's suburban environment. Before the recession, the real estate collapse, the never ending wars and the bankruptcy of governments everywhere, most people didn't worry too much about the forces behind the suburban lifestyle: how quickly it may become impossible to maintain or how challenging it would be to retrofit.
Kunstler sounded the alarm loud and clear already back then, declaring: Not too long from now, this cheap energy party will end and we will need to grow food, live and work locally, manufacture locally, create strong communities and nurture living and breathing civic environments for CITIZENS, not consumers.
I believe we're listening now.
