Two developments in the U.S. that may be of interest:
Last week, a San Francisco judge upheld the right of cities to attempt to sue greenhouse gas emitters in U.S. federal court. Judge William Alsup has instructed parties on both sides of the case to return to court with a two-part presentation. Part one "will trace the history of scientific study of climate change,” while “the second part will set forth the best science now available on global warming, glacier melt, sea rise, and coastal flooding. Earlier this month the three-member Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously rejected the Trump administration’s “drastic and extraordinary” effort to block a landmark climate rights lawsuit, Juliana v. United States. The case “seeks a constitutionally compliant national energy system and science-based climate recovery action by the federal government."
