Friends of Nature, a Chinese non-governmental organisation, filed suit against the companies responsible for the construction and environmental impact assessment (EIA) for a controversial damming project, reported Caixin. The Chinese NGO claims that the Huilongshan dam’s EIA is inaccurate and omits information. As reported previously in this digest, the Huilongshan dam could submerge part of the Xishuangbanna Nature Reserve, threatening tropical rain forests, protected species, and cutting off migration paths for fish. The Yuxi Intermediate People’s Court accepted the case through which Friends of Nature is trying to stop damaging construction activity and seeking compensation for environmental damages.
