Dear Colleagues,
Call of Expressions of interest to contribute to the Symposium "Oceans and Climate Change",
Valetta, Malta, 12th-14th June 2018
The International Climate Change Information Programme (ICCIP)
https://www.haw-hamburg.de/en/ ftz-nk/programmes/iccip/ which was established in 2008,
is a leading organisation in respect of education, communication and training on
matters related to climate change. Among other things, ICCIP
runs an open access journal on climate change management
and the world´s leading peer-reviewed book series on climate change adaptation:
http://www.springer.com/ series/8740 to which over 1.200 have contributed to date.
ICCIP is organising the Symposium “Oceans and Climate Change: towards a better understanding and handling of the
impacts of climate change to oceans, biodiversity and livelihoods”,
in cooperation with a set of organisations. The event will
be hosted by the the University of Malta, and will be held in Valetta, Malta on 12th-14th June
2019.
Apart from the presentation of scientific research and studies on climate change and oceans, the Symposium will also
provide a forum for the discussion on sustainable solutions. The event will also assist in stock-
taking efforts and analyse aspects of loss and damage. Ultimately, the Symposium will also
serve the purpose of showcasing experiences from research, field projects and best practice
to mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change to oceans, which may be useful
and/or widely implemented. The Symposium will be a truly interdisciplinary event,
mobilizing scholars, social movements, practitioners and members of governmental and non-governmental agencies
undertaking research and/or executing climate change projects related to oceans, from across the world.
ICCIP is currently seeking expressions of interest from indivividual scientists and representatives
of organisations, who may be interested to contribute to the event in a way which fits their
expertise and institutional priorities. We are open for any suggestions,
and there are various modalities of institutional cooperation which may be explored. The first call
for papers to the event will follow in June 2018, and we are hoping to have concluded negotiations
with interested parties by May 2018. Therefore, if you feel that you and/or your organisation may
wish to be involved in the event and may collaborate towards its organisation, and/or that you may
contribute by means of a presentation, please contact the
ICCIP team at: info@iccip.net. The details may then be discussed. Deadline: 30th April 2018.
Regards,
The ICCIP Communications Team
