The Chinese government’s management system for natural resources and environmental protection is set for reform according to Xinhua. The news emerged from a three-day closed door Central Committee meeting ahead of the annual joint national plenary meetings held in March. No further details were released at the time, but the matter is expected to be discussed at the annual lawmaking “twin sessions” which started on March 2. There has been speculation that the Ministry of Environmental Protection might become more powerful after the restructuring.
