River clean-up will be expensive

A senior official at the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) said that China needs to invest at least one trillion yuan (US$150 million) to clean-up its “black and stinky” waters, reports Jingwei. Zhang Bo, head of the Water Environment Department at the MEE, made the comment in response to media reports claiming that China needs enormous investment to clean up its rivers.
