Levels of PM2.5 in Hebei province fell 17.8% in the first half of 2018 from the same period last year, announced the Hebei Provincial Bureau of Ecology and Environment. The improvements are the result of efforts to stop sales of loose coal, shut outdated steel mills, toughen vehicle standards, and reduce coal consumption. To ensure compliance, provincial officials carried out over ten thousand inspections of industrial facilities in the first part of the year, checking 80% of polluting facilities at least once.
