China Environment News reports on new data showing that Beijing’s air quality has improved on last year. Beijing’s average PM2.5 concentration was 56 micrograms per cubic metre in the first six months of 2018, the lowest for that period since records began, and a fall of 15.2% on 2017 levels. There were eight heavy pollution days, nine less than during the same period last year. Environmental authorities have checked more than one million heavy diesel vehicles and found 8,000 illegal construction sites. Beijing has its own Blue Sky plan to improve air quality and is expected to maintain existing measures through the second half of the year.
