The International Energy Agency’s latest forecast for the gas sector anticipates that China will import 171 billion cubic metres of natural gas by 2023, making it the largest importer by 2019, Jiemian reports. China’s demand for natural gas will grow 8% per year, driven by efforts to improve air quality by switching domestic and industrial heating from coal to gas. Domestic production of natural gas is also slated to increase, making China the number four producer globally by 2023.
