Year of the Tiger starts today

Hi Jon—Happy Lunar New Year! Today marks the start of the Year of the Tiger. To celebrate, we have exciting news to share about wild tigers in Asia.

We are thrilled to announce that wild tiger populations are increasing, and have even doubled in some sites across India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Russia! This is the result of TX2, a global effort to double wild tiger populations. This conservation initiative launched in 2010, the last Year of the Tiger. WWF is proud to have been involved from the start.

As we celebrate this achievement, you might ask—how did we get here? Here are 12 ways tiger range countries have been working to restore Asia's roar over the last 12 years, including finding effective methods for tiger-human coexistence, restoring habitats, and tackling the illegal tiger trade.

Want to share your love of tigers? Check out our tiger wallpaper or send a tiger Valentine's Day ecard.

Throughout the year, we will share more stories about our critical tiger conservation work and how you can help protect wildlife—such as tigers—and nature. Your compassion and support for wildlife and nature make our conservation work possible. Thank you for all you do.
