What does art have to do with activism?

Dear Jon,

We are so excited that Chris Jordan, photographic artist, filmmaker, and cultural activist, will be a panelist for our online event From Art to Action. Chris is extremely well-suited to help us explore the topic of our event because he is known for creating art that tells the story of our unsustainable global consumption habits. You can get a sense of how and why he does it from this TedxSeattle talk exploring the question: Can beauty save our planet?

Chris Jordan is all in on beauty. After photographing sea birds dying by the dozens from consuming bits of plastic, Chris had a revelation: It was time to refocus his lens on the awesome beauty of the planet. Now, he searches out natural places that can inspire us to treasure and protect them from the devastating effects of pollution and climate change.

Beyond the power of natural beauty, we'll also discuss:

  • The connection between creativity and activism

  • Why a reverence for beauty can be an important motivating factor in what we deem important—and as a result, how we choose to act

  • How everyone can be creative in protecting the things that matter
SAVE YOUR SPOT

I hope you'll join us to hear from Chris Jordan and Jenny Price on Tuesday, March 22. And I encourage you to send in questions for our panelists prior to the event.

In gratitude,

Amy Buringrud
