If you resisted the afternoon siren call of a warm blanket and fluffy pillow with all your might when you were a kid but now wish the “adult nap time” concept would take off, today’s your lucky day: Your task is to take a nap or a break that allows you to reset and recharge.
At the very least, naps can refresh you after a poor night’s sleep, but the benefits don’t stop there. Naps can be good for your mood, memory, and ability to cope with stress and frustration, according to an article published by the American Psychological Association.
Just be sure to limit your midday zzz’s to between 10 and 20 minutes, as anything longer could leave you feeling groggy and may make it harder to fall asleep at bedtime, according to the Mayo Clinic. People who struggle with insomnia may want to refrain from daytime napping altogether.
If you don’t have time for a full-fledged nap, a quick reset works, too. Find a quiet spot where you can sit, close your eyes, and breathe deeply. Or sit by a sunny window with a view and let your mind wander.
Check your nap off your to-do list—you’ve successfully completed Day 13 of our New Year, New Intentions Wellness Challenge. Check back tomorrow for a new activity.
