Your morning brew isn't immune to impacts of the climate crisis. Rising temperatures, drought and changing weather patterns are causing some major coffee-producing areas to become less suitable for the crop — areas that could be cut in half by 2050. Making things more complicated: Coffee cultivation is a driver of the very processes that are speeding up the climate breakdown.
Fortunately, sustainable coffee is grown in a way that conserves nature and provides better livelihoods for the people who grow and process it — even in a changing climate.
At Conservation International, we are working to identify the places where climate change is shifting coffee production, to promote sustainable practices that also produce delicious coffee, and to ensure the long-term supply of high-quality, sustainable coffee that will improve the well-being of coffee-producing communities.
