It's been a while since the last official update on Hanoi's first metro line, which was supposed to open months ago. City officials are laying much of the blame for continued delays on China Railway Sixth Group, the Chinese contractor responsible for completing the line.
This week, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung visited the project and said that the line must open by the end of the year, though it's not clear what will happen if that doesn't occur (it won't).
And just yesterday, the French company tasked with carrying out a safety evaluation of the line said that work could take six more months, as they've only received half the necessary documents for the process. The contractor, meanwhile, has reportedly said it doesn't have all of these documents since some equipment was installed so long ago (it's been under construction since 2011). This would be comical if it wasn't so sad.
