An official from the National Energy Administration (NEA) has said that a draftrenewable energy quota policy that would require provinces to consume a certain percentage of renewable energy is to be passed by the end of June.
This statement was made in a NEA notice to provincial energy authorities released last week that seeks to help resolve major issues faced by renewable energy, according to the Technology Daily. According to a preliminary quota policy released in April 2016, the NEA wants all power companies to maintain renewable energy output at 15%. Those which cannot generate sufficient renewable energy can purchase it from other companies.
This marks the latest effort from the central government to push local counterparts towards the full implementation of the Renewable Energy Law. At the end of 2017, wind and solar accounted for 16.5% of installed capacity, and 6.6% of generated electricity.
