The average produce on the American
plate has traveled 1,500 miles, is
between 7- 14 days old, and has wasted
criminal amounts of fossil fuel from
fertilization to harvest. If it's
processed and packaged, it's even worse.

Here is author Michael Pollen (In Defense
of Food, The Omnivores Dilemma, Food Rules)
explaining that although we may not have this
at the forefront of our consciousness: food in
the conventional supermarket system contributes
mightily to our overall fossil fuel use and CO2
levels.
