China plans to make energy storage economically viable at large scales within a decade, reported Reuters and China Stock News, based on a statement issued by five government departments including the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). The government plans to subsidise energy storage technologies although no details have been disclosed as yet. Commercial energy storage is still nascent in China but is considered essential for incorporating intermittent forms of energy, such as solar and wind, into the grid. However, much rests on the country’s electricity market reforms.
