Dear jon,
Welcome to our E-team! You are part of a growing community of caring individuals who share our vision of compassionate conservation and coexistence between people and wildlife.
We are a national coalition of educators, conservationists, scientists, and community leaders who advocate for the humane treatment of coyotes, wolves, bobcats, mountain lions, and other North American wild predators; we work to dispel negative propaganda about these misunderstood species and to replace that misinformation and bias with science-based knowledge of and appreciation for our wild neighbors.
Thanks to our supporters, our campaign to End Wildlife Killing Contests has gained momentum nationwide. Eight states (AZ, CA, CO, MA, MD, NM, VT, and WA) have now enacted bans prohibiting these egregious and horrific events, and several more states are considering bans. We are utilizing a variety of approaches to encourage the public to #STOPTHEKILL:
- We continue to work with our coalition partners on legislative initiatives and are also addressing this issue at the federal level — our Petition to End Wildlife Killing Contests on Federal Public Lands has more than 63,000 signatures to date.
- Our collaboration with National Geographic filmmakers on the documentary Wildlife Killing Contests, bolstered by a coordinated social media campaign, has resulted in an enormous groundswell of vocal antipathy towards this unwarranted and scientifically insupportable mass slaughter of our wildlife.
- With backing from energized wildlife advocates, our billboard campaign — previously targeted in Wisconsin and Wyoming — will soon gain a foothold in other states.
We advocate for wolves across the country to ensure the survival of these iconic and ecologically critical predators. Our efforts include:
- Supporting the successful efforts to relist wolves outside of the Northern Rockies since their Endangered Species Act protections were rescinded by the Trump Administration;
- Launching a billboard campaign in Montana and Idaho to raise awareness of the continued plight of Northern Rockies wolves and urging people to demand the federal government emergency #RelistWolves in the Northern Rockies;
- Successfully sued Wisconsin DNR with coalition partners to stop the barbaric and scientifically indefensible wolf hunt;
- Engaging Colorado policymakers to ensure they uphold the will of voters to swiftly reintroduce wolves as mandated by Proposition 114;
- Submitting 30+ pages of written comments supporting Mexican gray wolf recovery and the use of best available science to the USFWS in response to their proposed revised 10(j) management rule; and
- Encouraging people nationwide to speak up for wolves by signing our Petition to Help Stop the War on Wolves.
Project Coyote and our supporters are active in communities across North America, building momentum in the battle to win greater protections for native carnivores.
