ENB This Week: Climate Action Summit, SDG Summit, and High-Level Dialogues Up Next

Colleagues,
We are collecting feedback from readers in our annual survey. Please take a few moments before 27 September to let us know how we are doing: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/IISDreadersurvey
The Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP), which concluded one week before UN Summits Week opens, closed with messages about the contribution of nature-based solutions to diverse global goals and targets. Read further for the link to our analysis of COP 14.
Hot Off the Press
Our Earth Negotiations Bulletin team writes that UNCCD COP 14, “ended on a note of optimism that there is a growing alignment of the land, climate, and biodiversity agendas, and, with its sharpened focus on land restoration, the UNCCD can offer cost-effective and sustainable solutions to some of the most entrenched global challenges today.” The deliberations built on a series of landmark global assessments published in 2019, including the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) Land Degradation and Restoration Assessment and its Global Assessment Report on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Special Report on Climate Change and Land. http://enb.iisd.org/vol04/enb04290e.html
Happening This Week
Our team will be covering the negotiations on the final adoption of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in Changing Climate (SROCC). This report evaluates the ways climate change will affect the ocean and marine life, as well as areas where water is found in its solid state, for example in polar or high-mountain regions. http://enb.iisd.org/climate/ipcc51/
On the Horizon
Next week we look forward to bringing you coverage of the Climate Action Summit, SDG Summit, High-level Dialogue on Financing for Development, and High-level Review of Progress on the SAMOA Pathway. http://enb.iisd.org/un/summits/2019/
