Forests

Hi Jon,
We’re living through a climate and wildlife emergency. One million species are at risk of extinction and people all over the world are already feeling the effects of climate crisis - from devastating floods to deadly fires.
Scientists say we have a little over 10 years left to avoid the worst impacts of climate change [1]. Protecting and restoring forests is one of the best defenses we have against climate breakdown.
Yet some of the biggest brands in the world are still profiting from forest destruction. Demand companies protect and restore the world's forests.

"We are living through a climate and wildlife emergency. Your reckless use of palm oil, soya, meat and dairy is driving forest destruction and pushing our planet to the limit. We demand you stop profiting from environmental destruction and start protecting our planet's ecosystems. Change now, or go extinct. The choice is yours."

Forests are vital to combating climate change. They help regulate the Earth’s climate by drawing carbon from the atmosphere. They store nearly 300 billion tonnes of carbon in their leaves, branches and other living parts. If we don’t end forest destruction, we have no chance of avoiding climate breakdown and an extinction crisis [2].
10 years ago, hundreds of the world’s biggest companies made a promise to end forest destruction by 2020. With only a few months left, they are nowhere near this goal. Last year, we made huge progress with one of the worlds biggest palm oil trader, Wilmar. But palm oil is only one of the threats facing our forests.
Two weeks ago, over 1000 top executives from the world’s biggest companies met at the Consumer Goods Forum in Vancouver, Canada. There were seminars on marketing to millennials and protecting and promoting their brands [3]. But forest protection wasn’t even on the agenda!
They need to act now - while there are still forests left to protect. In 2018, every minute the world lost over 60 football pitches worth of trees, we don’t have time to waste.

These companies urgently need to change - so we used their biggest event of the year to send them a message they can't ignore. Activists at the forum dropped banners calling out their forest destruction and supporters around the world took over the live Twitter feed displayed at the event.
Companies like Nestlé, Unilever and Mars rely on us to buy their products and keep them profitable. But they’re also vulnerable to public pressure -together, we can force them to put the planet before their own profits.
Restore forests: restore hope.
Thank you for everything you do,
Anthony and the Forests team
P.S. Not only are companies not on track to end deforestation by 2020, one company, Cargill, has just publicly announced that it will miss this deadline[4]! Demand forest protection now!
