A special CCTV report in Heilongjiang province investigated the widespread picking of wild azaleas and their sale online. Cutting the stems of the flowers in the wild is illegal, but the journalist had trouble finding a single unplucked bush during their investigation. Jiagedaqi, in Heilongjiang and Inner Mongolia, is a forest region famous for its springtime flowers. Experts say the flowers are an important part of the forest ecosystem. Conservationists have called for online shopping sites to crack down on the sale of wild flora.
