An area of low pressure that may form into a tropical storm will bring heavy rain to northern provinces this week.
According to AccuWeather, the system is currently over the East Sea between the Philippines and China. It will begin impacting areas of southeastern China, and particularly Hainan, as early as this evening.
The path and potential strength of this development are still uncertain, but coastal provinces in Vietnam's northeast should be prepared for heavy rain and strong winds, while inland regions may receive torrential downpours over the next few days.
If this system develops into a tropical storm, it will be called Wipha, though residents should be wary even if strengthening does not occur.
Some northern provinces have already been battered by season rains. According to VnExpress, two people were killed by landslides in Ha Giang Province on Sunday and Monday, while three more were seriously hurt.
