As world leaders gather in New York for the
United Nations General Assembly, China is giving them something to think about.
It issued a proposal on reform and development of global
governance. At its core is support for the UN playing a central role in
international affairs.
The proposal elaborates on China’s recent
initiatives on global security, global development and global civilization and
aims at creating a peaceful, sustainable and diverse world.
China is sending Vice President Han Zheng to the General Assembly, which begins in
earnest on Monday with a summit devoted to the UN Sustainable Development
Goals. The annual General Debate begins on Tuesday.
