Dear Colleagues,
Here’s an opportunity to help shape Timber-Lex, a forthcoming online library of existing national laws dealing with forest management, harvest, and timber trade.
Timber-Lex is a project of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), with the support of the government of Japan.
FAO plans to gather laws from up to fifty countries. A set of Guiding Legal Elements (GLEs) will identify the specific subjects to be covered, such as forest land use planning and tenure, forest management and harvest, processing and trade, and so forth. The GLEs will eventually also form the basis of a subject matter index, so that a user will be able to quickly find specific legal provisions on a list of thirty or so topics.
You can download the current draft GLEs here: http://bit.ly/FAOTimberLexGLE
FAO has already held an expert workshop to get feedback on the GLEs and has held a month-long comment session on its REDD+ and forest law online discussion group. It now invites comments from other interested persons. What subjects need to be covered? Is the current list adequate? What countries should be included? Please look at the GLEs and then visit this webpage: https://forms.gle/ i85mgT5XKbk3DzP99
The comment form will be open through 10 September.
Thank you for your help.
Regards,
Ken Rosenbaum
Consultant to FAO
