One year later, the American people are still in

It’s been almost one year since President Trump announced his intention to withdraw the United States from the global Paris climate agreement.
But Americans are not ready to give up our clean energy future.

Show President Trump that he may have withdrawn, but everyday Americans like you are still in: Make a donation to EDF to fight climate change in the states, in the courts, and in the private sector.

In the past year, we’ve seen cities, states, and businesses step up to fill the climate leadership vacuum President Trump’s announcement created.

In the states:
  • California voted to extend the state’s landmark cap-and-trade program to 2030.
  • The northeastern Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) states—Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont—agreed to reduce their emissions 30% from 2020 to 2030.
  • California and Washington signed a multilateral Declaration on Carbon Pricing in the Americas with Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Canada—a step towards a unified carbon market for American nations.
  • Illinois, Ohio, and New Jersey each made their own commitments to reducing climate emissions and generating more energy from renewable sources over the next decade.
  • Utah finalized new air quality rules that will reduce ozone emissions from the oil and gas industry.
In the private sector:
  • McDonald’s pledged to reduce its absolute greenhouse gas emissions by 36% by 2030.
  • Walmart announced that in Project Gigaton’s first year, suppliers have already reported reductions of more than 20 million metric tons of climate pollution.
  • Even oil and gas companies BP and ExxonMobilhave recently announced methane emissions reduction targets.
This Friday will mark one year since Trump’s shortsighted announcement, but we’re choosing to celebrate a different anniversary: One year since people across the United States began to step up and declare, “We’re still in.”

EDF is proud to be a part of the “We’re still in” coalition that includes more than 2,700 CEOs, mayors, governors, college presidents, and other leaders who collectively represent 160 million Americans from all 50 states.

There’s much more to be done—including bold, national solutions—but we’re not letting the Trump administration deter us from our goals.

If you’re still in, please donate $15 or more this week to fuel another year of clean energy and climate progress.

Thank you for standing with us this past year,
