International Day of Forests: 21 March
Forests and Sustainable Cities
Urban “treescapes” to foster healthier 21st century city living
Forests and trees in cities are more than just pleasing to the eye. Well-designed and managed "treescapes" properly integrated in urban planning can improve citizens' quality of life and help cities to flourish. With the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development recognizing urban sustainability as a key contributor to the success of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 11, this year's celebration of the International Day of Forests, being held under the theme Forests and Sustainable Cities, makes a compelling case for increasing the number of forests and trees in the world's cities, thus making them greener, healthier and happier places to live.
FAO will be marking the worldwide celebration of the International Day of Forests (IDF) 2018 with a special event at its headquarters in Rome, which will be opened by the FAO Director-General. View the programme here and follow the event via live webcast in English, French, Spanish and Italian here.
Find out more about IDF 2018 and its Collaborative Partnership on Forests-selected theme of “Forests and Sustainable Cities”. Full information on how you can join in with and promote this year’s celebration is on the IDF 2018website, including:
