Coffee Talk: Feminine Power of Goddesses

You are cordially invited to a discussion on the feminine power through the goddess Lajja Gauri in India’s culture and the goddess Pô Yan Dari of the ancient Cham culture in Vietnam.
– Guest speaker: Associate Professor, Dr Dinh Hong Hai
– Moderator: Associate Professor, Dr Duong Tuan Anh
The discussion will touch on the role of women in society and religion by comparing the perceptions of the two goddesses. It aims to unveil the fertility foundation of the two religions through the exploration of the feminine power (shakti) in India’s culture and the Mother principle in ancient Vietnam’s culture.
The guest speaker will also talk about a period of time during the Early Lê dynasty in Vietnam when the religious culture of the ancient Cham people started to disappeared, from which emerged the Vietnamese saying “As empty as the temple of bà Đanh (Pô Yan Dari)”.
Dr Dinh Hong Hai is a lecturer at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Hanoi, a researcher on symbols in the traditional Vietnamese culture. He has appeared as guest speaker on several TV series about ancient cultures and knowledge.
