Chinese tech giant Alibaba has been plunged into controversy recently over sexual assault.
The e-commerce giant has fired a male employee accused of raping a female employee, and two executives who mishandled the sexual assault allegation have resigned, the company announced on Monday morning.
A female employee of Alibaba claimed that she was sexually assaulted by her colleague and a client when she was inebriated during a "forced" business trip on the evening of July 27 in Jinan, east China's Shandong Province.
Alibaba Group also announced that it will set up a committee to investigate sexual harassment complaints of their employees, according to an internal letter on Thursday.
Although the investigation is ongoing, the incident has triggered outrage on Chinese social media. What can be done to protect women's rights in the workplace?
