Alibaba's logistics arm Cainiao Global has established the country's first cross-border cold chain distribution route with Ethiopian Airlines, ready for the future shipment of COVID-19 related drugs and vaccines.
The route, requiring ultra-low temperatures, is expected to help distribute coronavirus vaccines to parts of Africa, the Middle East, and Latin American, according to the company statement released on Wednesday.
Alibaba said drugs and vaccines could be stored in a controlled temperature environment as low as minus 23 degrees Celsius. Cargos then will be transported from Shenzhen to Africa on a weekly basis and forwarded to other countries via Addis Ababa and Dubai.
In an Op-Ed this week, Tom Fowdy, a British political and international relations analyst, explains why Chinese vaccines are gaining international momentum.
