Maradona's bond with China

Chinese Football Association has mourned the death of Maradona on the country's social media platform Weibo, saying his "departure has made football lovers extremely sad," and he "has brought indelible memories to Chinese fans. Tribute to his legendary life!"

Throughout his lifetime, Maradona had a deep bond with China as he once reiterated his desire to coach in China amid his multiple visits to the country.

"I would like to coach in China," said Maradona who was on an eight-day trip in Beijing in 2012. "I wish to contribute to the development of China's football youth."
