weADAPT: Adaptation in mountains - new theme, content and an online conference....!

weADAPT

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to your weADAPT update. We hope this message finds you and your loved ones safe and well.

We would like to share this month's featured content. As usual, you can also explore other articles and case studies that share lessons learned on climate change adaptation and related issues. If you would like to share your own work with others, please login and follow this simple guidance

New theme on Climate Change Adaptation in Mountains

Mountains cover roughly one quarter of the Earth’s land surface but host an impressive array of natural resources and provide numerous essential ecosystem services. They also feature some of the clearest indications of climate change: rising temperatures, melting glaciers and changing precipitation patterns are disrupting water flows and affecting ecosystems, creating and worsening natural hazards and threatening livelihoods and communities both within the mountains and downstream.

This new theme space, set up as part of the Adaptation at Altitude (AaA) programmeis supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). It aims to provide a community of practice and open networking space for researchers, practitioners and policy-makers to find out who is working on what and where and share and discuss insights from their work. The theme is free to join and completely open access. Members can elect to receive notifications of new discussion posts, articles and case studies, and a regular newsletter, to keep up to date with the latest happenings in this field.

To join the network please visit this page and click on "join" below the introductory text.

The AaA programme is developing a curated database of high-quality, global adaptation solutions for mountains that will be shared through this network. For more information please contact Anna Scolobig (Anna.Scolobig@unige.ch).

Are you working on adaptation in mountainous regions? Get in touch!
We would like to hear from you! To help kick-start knowledge sharing in the CCA in Mountains community of practice we will be offering support for those wanting to share content, including details of projects, reports, case studies etc. Please contact Christina Daszkiewicz (christina.daszkiewicz@sei.org) and Julia Barrott (julia.barrott@sei.org) to find out more.

In the spirit of collaboration (rather than competition) the AaA team are looking to link up with other relevant knowledge-sharing networks and platforms working on adaptation in mountains. Please get in touch with Julia Barrott (julia.barrott@sei.org) if you would like to explore how we can join efforts to connect knowledge in this field.
