RAINFORESTS ARE VITAL FOR ALL LIFE ON EARTH

Dear Jon,

The amazingly beautiful rainforests of the world are our friend. They help to stabilize the climate – from supporting the natural cycle that provides us with fresh water to absorbing carbon dioxide that would otherwise accelerate global warming. And they are a home to many indigenous peoples and rural communities, who rely on them for food, medicine, shelter and livelihoods.

Rainforests are also home to half the world’s plant and animal species! In fact, it’s likely that there are still many more plant and animal species yet to be discovered in this treasure trove of natural wonders, which could one day benefit humanity.

Unfortunately, illegal logging and unsustainable agricultural expansion for products such as palm oil are threatening rainforests worldwide, including the indigenous peoples, communities, and wildlife that live there.

Here’s how we can all do our part to help protect rainforests in our daily lives:

  • Buy from ethical brands and retailers that choose sustainable palm oil and wood.
  • Ensure that any products containing palm oil and wood come from sustainable sources.
  • Look for sustainably sourced products with labels like FSC and RSPO.
  • Raise your voice and show your support for a future where people and nature thrive.

IT'S TIME TO MEND HUMANITY'S BROKEN RELATIONSHIP WITH NATURE

The Covid-19 pandemic joins a long list of emerging diseases that will continue to undermine global stability unless we fix our relationship with nature.

Together, we must ensure the response to this global emergency makes our planet and our communities stronger. World leaders must take action now.

GOOD NEWS FOR WORLD’S MOST ENDANGERED SPECIES GROUP

Sturgeon have been around since the age of the dinosaurs but are now on the brink of extinction due to overfishing, a flourishing illegal trade in wild-caught sturgeon and their eggs (caviar) and the blocking of migratory routes by dams and other structures. So we’re pleased to announce some key steps forward in Europe’s Danube River as part of our global efforts to safeguard the world’s most endangered species group.
