I don't think I've mentioned this in a while, but in case you're curious, Hanoi's first metro line - the one that has been 99% complete for over a year - is still not ready. High-level leadership is now demanding that the Cat Linh-Ha Dong line open to the public before October, but dozens of Chinese experts needed to conduct further test runs have not been able to enter Vietnam due to quarantine regulations.
Three French experts need to be in Hanoi for a final safety assessment of the system, but are also stuck outside of the country due to the pandemic.
Finally, there is the issue of the main Chinese contractor demanding another US$50 million before it finishes work, which the Vietnamese side has rejected, saying that the money is supposed to paid out after trains start running.
Given how badly things have gone with this line over the years, I would not be surprised if 2021 comes and Hanoi still does not have its first metro line.
