Upcoming REDD+ Learning Session: The NDCs we want – Forests in the Focus

Dear All,

Please join us for the next WWF Forest and Climate online REDD+ Learning Session on June 10 at 10:00 EST/16:00 CET

Topic: The NDCs we want – Forests in the Focus

When: Wednesday, June 10 at 10:00 EST/16:00 CET

What: Nature-based solutions (NBS), including forests, must play a crucial role if we are to keep average global temperature rise below 1.5°C. However, analysis suggests that current NDCs do not sufficiently and adequately include nature-based solutions yet – that despite the urgency of the climate crisis, the potential of forests to mitigate and adjust to climate change is largely untapped. Now is the moment to change this, with Parties to the UNFCCC having committed to ratcheting up climate ambition and to submit their enhanced NDCs by COP26.

In this learning session, Fernanda de Carvalho and Shaun Martin from WWF will provide background and context on the current international climate policy agenda and present WWF’s recommendations on enhancing Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) through NBS. Erin Beasley from Conservation International and John Verdieck from The Nature Conservancy will elaborate on the role of forests in current NDCs, including concrete country examples, and provide recommendations how countries can better integrate forests in their NDCs by COP26, including existing guidance by UNFCCC.

A Q&A will follow this presentation.
