Dear Jon,
Last week, Congress said they were planning to give $0.00 in emergency international aid to fight COVID-19. Do you think that’s right?
Coronavirus knows no borders and has spread to almost every country in the world. No one will be safe from this virus until every country has the support they need to stop the spread of COVID-19, but people living in low-income countries are especially vulnerable to its impact.
If we can help, we should — and as one of the biggest economies on the planet, we have the power to ensure that we are fighting this pandemic everywhere, not just in the US. This will ultimately make us all stronger.
Sign our petition asking Congress to fund emergency international aid to protect the lives of people in extreme poverty. I want to gather 5,000 signatures by Friday, when my colleague Filmona and I aim to share the petition with Congress.
Here at home, vulnerable people are also facing incredible challenges in the face of COVID-19. Congress must step up and increase benefits available through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program — more commonly called SNAP benefits — by 15%.
In solidarity,
Alex and the Global Citizen team
