The director of the National Energy Administration, Nur Bekri, is under investigation by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, reports Jiemian. Nur Bekri is also deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission and was formerly the Party Secretary of Xinjiang. He is one of the few high-ranking politicians in China from a minority ethnic group. The reasons for the investigation were not made clear in initial reports and will likely only emerge after its conclusion. A former NEA director, Liu Tienan, was sentenced to life in prison for corruption in 2014.
