Climate
is an essential consideration for agriculture and food security. In
turn, the ways in which food is produced impacts future climate and the
overall sustainability of broad landscapes.
Food production stands to affect water quality and community
livelihoods. It
contributes to or mitigates climate change, and agricultural land
use practices act as a critical lever in whether forests and vital
ecosystem services therein are conserved in the long run. Ensuring food
security and enhancing climate resilience hinges
in part on securing
finance,
sustainable commodity sourcing, recognizing
the importance of land tenure, sustaining farmer incomes,
building farmer capacity and
climate services for managing and adapting to climate risks, and scaling up the
adoption of climate-smart practices.
