Dear Climate-L readers,
On the occasion of COP 23, under the Presidency of Fidji, taking place
in Bonn (Germany) from the 6th to 17th of November, the Ministry of
Agriculture and Food is pleased to invite you to the following event:
« The sustainable forest management in the face of climate change: What challenges? What actions? »
Tuesday, November the 7th from 3pm to 4:30pm
at the French Pavilion (location A5 - Bonn Zone)
The Paris Agreement renewed the importance of forests at a key element
in tackling climate change, on which they are highly dependent. At
global level, forests absorb a third of anthropogenic greenhouse gases
emissions. The way forests are managed affects their
role as carbon sinks and has a direct impact on climate both in the
short and long term.
A panel of experts incuding researchers, managers, investors,
decision-makers and environmentalists will discuss the new challenges of
sustainable forest management in the face of climate change. Between
sequestration and substitution, adaptation and mitigation,
which forest management should be given priority in order to combat
climate change effectively? What trade-offs should we make about forest
action? And how do we get all the actors to dialogue together?
To encourage discussion, this event will bring together the following speakers:
Julie Marsaud (France Nature Environnement, FNE)
Jean-François Dhôte (French National Institute for Agricultural Research, INRA)
Benoït Leguet (Institute for Climate Economics, I4CE)
Salvatore Martire (Association of State Forests in Europe, EUSTAFOR)
Laura Nikinmaa (European Forest Institute, EFI)
Giacomo Grassi (Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, JRC)
Karin Simonson (Natural Resources Canada, NRCAN)
Organised by the French Ministries of Europe and Foreign Affairs, of
Ecological and Inclusive Transition and of Agriculture and Food, this
event is open to all accredited persons under COP 23.
Best regards
Florian Claeys
