E-news: Rohingya crisis is deepening

Following violence in their home state of Rakhine, around 415,000 Rohingya have been forced to flee Myanmar in search of safety.

Our colleagues in the field are reporting daily on their stories of violence and hardship. There are numerous cases, like elderly Mahmun and his wife, who walked for eight days across mountains and rivers to seek safety in the overstretched Kutupalong camp in Bangladesh. They were found on the side of the road, sick and hungry. We provided them with food, water and essential items to survive. But alongside Mahmun and his wife, hundreds of thousands of women and children, are also in in dire need of help, and with refugee camps stretched beyond their capacity, even more support is desperately needed for this deepening humanitarian crisis.

The story of how an elderly couple crossed a mountain and river to reach safety in Bangladesh.
