AFRICA NDC DIALOGUE – 26-28 SEPTEMBER 2017

#NDCDialogues

A Regional Dialogue on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for Africa will convene representatives from 50 African countries as well as international organizations and technical experts in Rabat, Morocco next week.

The Dialogue will support countries in the process of moving toward implementation of their nationally determined contributions (NDCs) submitted in the context of the Paris Agreement on climate change.

The dialogue aims to meet the following objectives:

  • Update on the planning status of NDC implementation, share experiences, best practices, and opportunities and associated challenges in the region.
  • Clarify capacity building gaps and needs on NDC implementation with a focus on Africa and provide recommendations on support priorities to address such gaps.
  • Discuss NDC implementation at the local authority level, considering policies and actions, and incentives.
  • Address climate finance needs for NDC implementation and strengthen the role of the private sector in the implementation of NDCs.
  • Discuss entry points to integrate gender equality and women’s empowerment into NDC implementation and planning

This Regional Dialogue on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for Africa is supported by the governments of Japan, Norway and the European Union, and is co-organized by the UNDP, the UNFCCC Secretariat, and the Government of Morocco in collaboration with GIZ and the NDC Partnership.

The Africa Dialogue is part of the fourth round of Regional NDC Dialogues, which have been regularly convened to advance the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement since 2015. To date, they have benefitted over 150 countries through three global workshops and 15 regional dialogues.
