It’s World Whale Day 🐋

Jon,

Today is World Whale Day, and with dedicated ocean lovers like you, I know we can reach our goal of $10K to protect these and all our ocean’s incredible animals

Make your special World Whale Day gift today. Your support helps us create a healthy, sustainable ocean and find solutions to the climate crisis—a win for whales and all that depend on the ocean.

Nearly all ocean animals are threatened by climate change, which is the greatest threat facing our ocean today. Warming ocean temperatures are affecting whale populations around the world, including in some ways we might not expect:

  • Melting polar ice means less food for some krill species, which are a favorite food of blue whales and other species.
  • Changing conditions in the Gulf of St. Lawrence result in fewer herring, a favorite food of humpback whales, which leads to decreased breeding success.
  • Ocean acidification (caused by increased CO2 in the ocean) can affect how low-frequency sound travels through sea water, and no one knows yet how that affects whales’ communication.

Fortunately, the ocean is a hotspot for climate solutions, from providing more renewable energy options to ways to reduce shipping emissions. In fact, the ocean could provide as much as a fifth of the emissions cuts we need to stay safe and limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Here at Ocean Conservancy, we’re hard at work on ocean-based climate solutions that help whales and all ocean animals. Join our efforts today by helping us raise $10K for our ocean before 11:59 PM tonight.

For our ocean,
