Hi Jon,
How much protection is enough protection? That’s the one million dollar question when it comes to our oceans.
As you’ve probably seen, the oceans are in a very bad way. They’re facing threats from all angles: industrial fishing, the climate crisis, oil drilling and even deep sea mining to name a few. [1] And without healthy oceans we can’t have a healthy planet.
So what’s the best way to save our oceans? Watch this video to find out.
All our lives depend on the oceans. They produce half the planet’s oxygen and the deep sea stores enormous amounts of carbon - so we need them to fight climate change.
When our oceans are left alone they can bounce back at amazing rates. But less than 3% of the oceans are properly protected, meaning all industrial activity here is banned. Which is quite literally a drop in the ocean.
Greenpeace, together with supporters like you, have been campaigning to protect at least 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030.
But is 30% really enough? Watch the video to find out.
