ACTION ALERT
Scientists Watched Big Oil Ads—Here's what they Had to Say Dear Jon Anderholm, It's no secret that the fossil fuel industry has spent decades actively deceiving the public about the harms of their dirty products. Since the 1970s, companies such as ExxonMobil and Chevron and their trade groups have waged campaigns to confuse the public about their role in climate change and block sensible climate policies. These days they use flashy, colorful ads to try to convince us that fossil fuels are clean and necessary. Well, UCS scientists aren't falling for Big Oil's misleading advertisements. We asked two of our staff scientists to sit down and watch some of the ads the fossil fuel industry is putting out in an attempt to make their products seem more appealing—see how they reacted! Watch scientists react to ExxonMobil's advertisement now, and share with your friends on Facebook and Twitter and your other social networks. UCS scientists Dr. Astrid Caldas and Dr. Gretchen Goldman weren't fooled by Big Oil's flashy advertisements, and we know you won't be either. But as public pressure mounts for fossil fuel companies to take responsibility for their contributions to climate impacts, they are fighting back hard with more misleading ads. Don't let ExxonMobil and its peers get away with deception. Watch our videos and share with your friends! Sincerely, Ortal Ullman Outreach Coordinator Climate & Energy Program Union of Concerned Scientists |
