Dear colleagues,
FAO is launching the Third Asia-Pacific Forest Sector Outlook Study (APFSOS III). Through the years, FAO has been at the forefront of undertaking long-term global and regional outlook studies for food and agriculture, including forestry. The first Asia-Pacific Forest Sector Outlook Study was completed in 1998, outlining the development path of the forest sector till 2010. The second Asia-Pacific Forestry Sector Outlook Study was completed in 2010 and extended the time horizon to 2020. It has provided an assessment of the drivers of change, analysis on the probable scenarios and key developments, and recommendations on what needs to be done to make forestry better serve society’s needs. APFSOS III will help to provide a clear picture of emerging opportunities and challenges for forestry in Asia and the Pacific to 2030, laying out a solid foundation for long-term strategic planning by decision-makers including governments, investors, industries, international organizations, and civil society organizations.
Considering the complexity in identifying the pathways of forestry in the coming decades, we would like to seek inputs from all the key stakeholders right from the onset of designing the study. The starting point for the outlook study is to identify the critical emerging themes/questions/issues that forestry will have to address in the coming decades to make it relevant to a changing world.
We are inviting you to contribute by taking our survey which will only take 5-7 minutes of your time. Your inputs along with those provided by other stakeholders will be collated and analyzed in detail and this will form the core component of the outlook study. We will very much appreciate if you could share us your thoughts by 18 April 2018. Many thanks for your collaboration.
Best regards,
FAO Forest Sector Outlook Study III
