Purpose of the articles posted in the blog is to share knowledge and occurring events for ecology and biodiversity conservation and protection whereas biology will be human’s security. Remember, these are meant to be conversation starters, not mere broadcasts :) so I kindly request and would vastly prefer that you share your comments and thoughts on the blog-version of this Focus on Arts and Ecology (all its past + present + future).

Dear Jon,

Here at Bio4Climate we are excited for the next two weekends, and after reading this email you will be too!

This Saturday, September 10, we will be hosting Richard Heinberg of the Post Carbon Institute and community leaders for our inaugural event in a series of events focused on climate adaptation - scroll down to learn more.

Next Saturday, September 17, we'll hear the stories of three youth ecorestorers from three different countries: Colombia, the U.S., and Brazil.

Around the world, young people are organizing in a variety of ways to help nature heal and uplift their communities, both human and non-human. Through mountain restoration, artivism (art activism), and advocating for regenerative agriculture, our three panelists will share what inspired them to join the climate movement, how they got started, and the importance of their work.

Join us to hear from Sebastian Esteban Lozano-Báez, Ayushi Gaur, and Carol Viana as they take us through their eco-restoration journey and inspire us to celebrate youth voices worldwide.

I personally cannot wait to host this event, alongside my colleague Abby Abrahamson. All three speakers have already motivated me to take more climate action, and I know their stories will resonate with you.

When we amplify the work of young leaders, we get a glimpse of the greener and more equitable future we are building. And if these three activists have anything to say about it, the future is bright indeed.

See you then!

Sergio is based in Popayán-Cauca, Colombia. He received a PhD in Forest Resources at the University of São Paulo, Brazil, where he learned the importance of soil in forest regeneration. The results of his thesis appeared in many scientific articles.

In 2019, he developed his first restoration project with the organization Selva, which focuses on research for conservation in the neotropics. This project aims to restore 111 acres of mountain habitat by planting 25,000 native trees. In recognition of his work, Global Landscapes Forum named Sergio one of their Restoration Stewards of 2022.

Ayushi is double majoring in Marine Biology and Dance at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. Aside from her studies, Ayushi is part of the Roots & Shoots National Youth Leadership Council – a program of the Jane Goodall Institute.

One of Ayushi's projects with Roots & Shoorts is ConservACTION, a virtual space dedicated to highlighting the intersections of creative arts and environmentalism. Through dance, Ayushi transforms the concept of climate communication, and through her projects she provides a platform for other artists to spread awareness for today's ecological problems and solutions.

Carol is an environmental engineer and climate activist. She is the co-founder of the Chloride Free Foundation, an international nonprofit trying to reverse climate change by protecting soil biodiversity and promoting chloride, and chemical, free agriculture.

Carol is also a member of YOUNGO, the official Youth Constituency of the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change). With her global reach, Carol advocates for regenerative agriculture and emphasizes its benefits for both people and the planet.

Redesigning Our Communities
for Life After Fossil Fuels

A series of virtual and in-person community events
in 6 locations in the U.S. and Canada

Inaugural Event:

This Saturday, September 10, join author Richard Heinberg and community leaders as they share valuable insights on how to transition from a fossil fuel-based economy and lifestyle to a regenerative one. Then sign up for an in-person or virtual community event to help out, learn, and build skills in implementing this transition.

Heinberg says "we’re going to have to start coming to terms with nature’s limits. That means shared sacrifice, cooperation, and belt tightening."

From ecosystem restoration to inclusive environmentalism, we can foster community and ecological resilience and better prepare for climate-related disasters. When we work together, and amplify the stories of those on the frontlines, we find ways to live in harmony with one another and with the planet.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
