Our Redwood Connect Grants are designed to foster equitable access to parks, meaningful and community-driven connections with nature, and a deeper understanding of the many different attributes and benefits of the redwood forest. We believe that visits to a redwood park, particularly for youth, will nourish their curiosity about the outdoors and cultivate a sense of stewardship that resonates with their individual interests, from ecology, recreation, or health and wellness to relationship building. Thus, a primary goal for the League is to provide engaging park experiences for youth, their families and communities so they experience the wonder of these remarkable forests.
Since 2000, Save the Redwoods League has awarded more than 300 grants for redwood field trips ﹣ serving thousands of children and families ﹣and we are seeking community, school and park partners again this year to deliver in-park inspiration.
2020 Call for Proposals
The application process for our 2020 Redwood Connect Grants is now open. We are accepting applications on an ongoing basis until September 4, 2020.
GRANT CRITERIA
The League is seeking Redwood Connect Grant proposals for projects that:
- Deliver an inspiring firsthand experience in the redwoods, defined by community interests and needs.
- Directly serve youth and young adults ages preK – 30 who may not otherwise have the opportunity to visit the redwoods. Priority will be given to proposals that engage low-income youth, young people of color, and indigenous communities that often face barriers to outdoor access.
- Plan to deliver programming between December 2020 – August 2021 if possible, and have contingency plans in place in the event of COVID-19 limitations or restrictions.
REDWOOD CONNECT GRANT CATEGORIES
The grants will fund projects that fit into one of the following two categories:
- Redwood Visit: Programs which provide a 1-day field trip experience in a redwood forest. $1,500 award
- Forest Immersion: Programs which provide 3 or more field experiences in a redwood forest. This includes a group spending multiple days in the forest or an organization which brings multiple groups to the forest for a single visit or overnight visit. $5,000 award
ELIGIBILITY
We only accept applications from nonprofit organizations (including public agencies and schools) as described in 26 USC Section 170(b) (1) (A) [other than clauses (vii) and (viii)]. Individuals are not eligible to apply. Once your application has been approved you will be asked to provide proof of non-profit status.
