Join IUCN for a 24 hour virtual event on the Bonn Challenge and forest landscape restoration on Sept 2

Dear colleagues,

On Wednesday 2 September 2020, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) will host a global event celebrating the first milestone year of the Bonn Challenge and the enormous impact of the forest landscape restoration movement.

Global leaders and restoration champions will celebrate the diversity of benefits that forest landscape restoration brings and will call for increased global commitments from governments to restore our future, in advance of the 2030 Bonn Challenge milestone and UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. An underlying theme will be how forests can be used to build back better after the COVID-19 pandemic, a thematic area we have identified for IDF 2021 as well.

We are inviting you to join the live digital event on 2 September. It’s a chance for you to share your experiences and thoughts on why restoration is an essential nature-based solution to tackling climate change, food security, land degradation and social challenges.

The 24-hour digital event, called #RestoreOurFuture, will profile one country on the hour every hour. During this 24-hour period feature videos of case study restoration projects and influencers, visual assets and live panel discussions will be shared by participants from over 24 countries.

Influencers and spokespeople already involved include Bianca Jagger, Bruno Oberle the Director General of IUCN, and hundreds of other restoration influencers and champions.

Top 5 ways to get involved:

  1. Follow @IUCN_Forests on Twitter and the #RestoreOurFuture hashtag
  2. Share videos / photos / news articles of any restoration project that you have been a part of or that inspire you.
  3. Share a video of you talking to camera about on why forest landscape restoration is important to you.
  4. Share content in the communications toolkit, and retweet and engage with the live content during the day.
  5. Remember to share all content on #RestoreOurFuture on Wednesday 2 September.

Our communications toolkit, which provides you with more details on the event, how to get involved and the assets that you can share is attached. The links in this toolkit will be updated over the next few weeks with new content and videos that you can share.

The 2 September virtual event is a once in a lifetime opportunity for thousands of individuals, communities, organisations and governments to come together and share stories of restoration and accelerate global restoration action to restore our future

We look forward to seeing you on the 2nd.

Best wishes,

Swati
