As part of the city's effort to encourage public transportation usage, 300 new shelters will be built at bus stops.
According to VietnamNet, these facilities will be added in 17 outlying districts, as well as Son Tay.
The shelters will include free WiFI access and real-time bus tracking systems powered by solar energy.
The news source shares that bus routes in outlying areas account for 57% of the city's public transport system, with 71 bus routes covering over 2,100 stops. However, only 23 of these stops are currently sheltered.
Officials in the capital are working to expand the city's public transit offerings as motor vehicle traffic worsens, but progress has been slow.
The Ha Dong-Cat Linh metro line, for example, was expected to open to the public in April, yet it is still not operating and there is no timeline for when this may finally happen. Meanwhile, the Nhon-Hanoi route is only 50% complete, though the above-ground section of that line may open to riders next year.
