EVENTS
November 9, 2022 | 4:30pm EET / 2:30pm UTC
A new framework for AFR100 pairs unprecedented
investment for restoration with innovative monitoring systems showcasing the
success of new and existing locally-led solutions. With support from partners
around the world, land throughout Africa will be restored to protect from the
worst effects of climate change, revolutionize agriculture and improve life for
people in local communities and around the world. This new framework, managed
by WRI’s Global Restoration Initiative, opens a new era of restoration
financing in Africa. Attend the event in person at the COP27 Nature Zone
Pavilion or register for the livestream here.
November 14, 2022 | 9am EET / 7am UTC
This event will bring private, public and civil
society sectors together to explore solutions to commodity-driven
deforestation, and showcase progress being made to better conserve and restore
forests while improving farmer livelihoods. A panel of speakers from key
sectors — commodity and consumer goods companies, financial institutions, civil
society and government — will discuss action already underway, including
through the Agri-Commodity Sector Roadmap, the Forest Data Partnership, United
States government action and more, and look ahead to the challenges that
remain. The event will be organized by the USG in collaboration with partner
companies and organizations. Attend the event in person at the COP27 USG
Pavilion or watch it here.
November 14, 2022 | 11am EET / 9am UTC
Can we unlock billions of dollars of climate
finance for nature-based solutions this decade? Not if we can’t measure, report
and verify (MRV) the carbon impacts of our interventions. Learn how WRI’s Land
& Carbon Lab and partners are developing open access data solutions to
improve the accuracy, precision, transparency and cost-effectiveness of MRV at
project, jurisdictional and global scales. Attend the event in person at
the COP27 Nature Zone Pavilion or register for the livestream here.
November 15, 2022 | 11am EET / 9am UTC
Organized by the Alliance for Global Water
Adaptation and the Nature Conservancy, this event featuring WRI’s
Cities4Forests team will explore opportunities for increased investment in
nature-based solutions to protect global freshwater ecosystems, including new
approaches and tools at multiple scales such as watershed level collective
action, national planning and regulatory reform, connection to policy and
decision makers, and most importantly, deep connections to communities in
watersheds. Attend the event in person at the COP27 Water Pavilion or register for the livestream here.
November 16, 2022 | 5pm EET / 3pm UTC
The African Development Bank, Worldwide Fund for
Nature, WRI’s Cities4Forests, the World Bank, the Global Facility for Disaster
Risk Reduction, the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership and the Caterpillar
Foundation are joining forces to accelerate nature actions through an analysis
of large-scale nature-based solutions (NBS) for adaptation. This session will
highlight important lessons from NBS case studies and key reports and policy
papers; and will showcase new projects in Kenya, Uganda, South Africa and Tunisia
tackling challenges such as food, water and energy security. Attend the
event in person at the COP27 Africa Pavilion or watch it here.

One way for governments to restore more land?
Paying people to grow trees! Many national policies are leading the way in
Latin America and the Caribbean, where 18 countries in the region are uniting
under Initiative 20x20 to
restore over 50 million hectares of land by 2030.
Join 20x20 to hear about public restoration programs in Belize, Guatemala,
Costa Rica, Colombia and Peru. Panelists will share their challenges and new
innovations in this field as they design policies to support restoration
implementation, meet NDCs and build climate resilience nationwide. Register to
attend the event in person at
COP27 or register for the livestream here.
